Pre-Engineered Building Manufacturer for Shahbad Markanda
Shahbad Markanda is a farm-trade town. Paddy, wheat, sugarcane, sunflower and vegetables come in from the surrounding farms, and the businesses around them – rice mills, cold stores, poultry farms and small agro units – need large, simple steel sheds that are ready before the next crop arrives.

Mahawar Prefab Solutions (MPS) designs, fabricates and erects pre-engineered buildings (PEB) for such owners. Everything is made at our own plant in Mandi Gobindgarh, Punjab, and trucked down the GT Road to your site. We are an MSME ourselves, certified ISO 9001:2015, ISO 45001:2018 and ZED Bronze.
What drives business in Shahbad
The town sits on the left bank of the Markanda river, on NH-44 (the old GT Road) between Ambala and Kurukshetra, with a station on the Delhi-Ambala railway line. Its economy is built on agriculture:
- Grain mandi and rice mills – Shahbad is a significant procurement market for farm produce and the main sunflower procurement centre in Kurukshetra district, and a large number of rice mills run in the belt from here towards Karnal.
- Sugar – the Shahabad Cooperative Sugar Mills is a cooperative mill that has also added an ethanol plant, opened by the state’s Chief Minister.
- Cold storage – private cold stores in the area hold potatoes and other produce between seasons.
- Poultry – poultry farming is a significant part of the local economy.
Most of these businesses are seasonal. A storage shed that is late by one month can mean a whole season of paddy or potatoes kept under tarpaulin. That is why speed of construction matters here more than in many other towns.
PEB in Shahbad: buildings we supply
- Rice mill sheds and paddy godowns – wide clear spans so trolleys and trucks can turn inside, with ridge ventilation to let moisture out.
- Cold storage buildings – steel frame with pre-insulated Coolshyne roofing sheets from our own production.
- Poultry and animal sheds – light, well-ventilated structures; one of our published projects is a 10,000 sq ft double-slope animal-husbandry building.
- Warehouses for fertiliser, seed, agro inputs and FMCG stock along the highway.
- Factory sheds for agro-processing, sugar-allied and engineering units, with cranes and mezzanines where needed.
A pre-engineered building in Shahbad makes sense for these jobs because the frame is cut, welded and drilled in our factory, then bolted together on site. Compared with a brick-and-RCC shed, there is far less site work, no curing time for the superstructure, and the building can be extended later by adding bays. If you are comparing prefabricated structures manufacturers for a rice mill or cold store here, ask each one how much work happens in the factory and how much on your site.
For budgeting, our warehouse PEB cost guide explains what changes the per-sq-ft rate. You can also read how we built a 20,000 sq ft warehouse for Ashirvad by Aliaxis in our Tapa Mandi case study.
Getting steel to Shahbad down NH-44
Our plant is about 85 km from Shahbad by road. The usual route is Mandi Gobindgarh – Sirhind – Rajpura – Ambala, then south on NH-44 to Shahbad: one straight highway run of roughly 1 to 1.5 hours by car. A loaded trailer leaving in the morning normally reaches the site the same day.
Because the plant is this close, our engineers can visit your site before design, and our supervisors can reach it quickly during erection. Typical industry timelines for a mid-sized PEB shed are:
- Drawings and approval: 1-3 weeks
- Fabrication: 3-6 weeks after drawing approval, depending on size and steel availability
- Erection: 2-6 weeks after foundations are ready
These are ranges, not promises. Your actual schedule is fixed in the quotation once the design is final.
Designing a PEB in Shahbad for local conditions
Every building is designed for the actual site, not copied from another town. For Shahbad we look closely at:
- Flooding and drainage – in July 2023 the Markanda rose above the danger mark at Shahbad and Shahabad block was among the worst-hit areas in Kurukshetra. We advise raising the plinth above the highest known flood level, keeping column bases and anchor bolts above ground water, and sizing gutters and down-pipes for heavy monsoon rain.
- Soil – river-plain alluvial soil can be soft or loose in places. A simple soil test lets your civil engineer size the foundations correctly.
- Wind – designed for the basic wind speed IS 875 (Part 3) specifies for the site, with the right terrain and opening factors for large shutters.
- Earthquake – designed to IS 1893 for the seismic zone that applies to your site, using the version of the code in force when you build.
- Corrosion – fertiliser stores, poultry sheds and humid cold stores need a better paint system and a suitable sheet coating, such as PPGL AZ150 or ZAM.
Steel design follows IS 800:2007. Loads follow IS 875 Parts 1, 2 and 3 (dead, imposed and wind) and IS 1893 (earthquake).
Your quotation checklist
| Information | Why we need it |
|---|---|
| Plot size and Google Maps pin | To plan the footprint and truck access |
| Length, width and eave height | To size the frame and estimate steel |
| Use of the building (rice mill, cold store, poultry, warehouse) | To choose roof, ventilation and insulation |
| Crane, mezzanine or future extension | These change column and rafter sizes |
| Past flood level at the site, if known | To set the plinth and base details |
| Soil test report, if available | For foundation design by your civil engineer |
FAQs for Shahbad Markanda buyers
How far is your plant from Shahbad Markanda?
Our plant in Mandi Gobindgarh is about 85 km away by road, via Rajpura and Ambala on NH-44. A loaded truck normally reaches the site the same day it is dispatched.
Can you build a pre-engineered building for a rice mill or paddy storage in Shahbad?
Yes. We design rice mill sheds and paddy godowns with wide clear spans, ridge ventilation and space for trucks and trolleys to move inside.
Our land is near the Markanda river. Can a PEB still be built there?
Yes, with the right base design. We recommend a raised plinth above the highest known flood level, anchor bolts and column bases kept clear of standing water, and a proper drainage plan around the building.
Do you supply insulated roofing for cold storage and poultry sheds?
Yes. We make pre-insulated Coolshyne roofing sheets and can combine them with the steel frame so the full building comes from one supplier.
Do you also take projects in Kurukshetra, Ambala and Karnal?
Yes. We work across Haryana, including Kurukshetra, Ambala and Karnal, from the same Mandi Gobindgarh plant.
